Now more than ever, there is an urgent need to protect this important natural area – both for our planet’s future and for a healthier present for those that call northern Kenya their home today.

The climate crisis knows no borders. This decade ecosystem restoration will be a success because we have no alternative. People are fleeing from climate change and fighting to survive.

Help us ensure a thriving rangeland that sustains the full diversity of life.

 OUR WORK

We eradicated trachoma. We returned eyesight to over 500 people and prevented painful blindness to all inhabitants living in an area of over 1 million acres.

We provide clean drinking water to 10 communities. We created Silango reservoirs, a simple and creative solution to rehabilitate land while continuing to provide people and wildlife with water.

We enacted warrior protection to give elephants safe passage through community lands. We have seen and witnessed firsthand the power when communities and elephants are at peace. When we began, there were 43 elephant carcasses in one of the areas that we cover. Today, we work with traditional Samburu warriors to protect the elephants.

We gave Samburu women freedom through training and employment. By preserving traditional skills in beadwork, we have enabled the flow of income for women to live how they strongly choose.

We continue to provide emergency medical assistance to the Samburu community.

Building upon the last 23 years of knowledge, we are now turning to the children of Africa, and the future.

Join us.

Protecting Wildlife

Supporting local people to protect wildlife and wild areas. Recording knowledge from elders to map historic migration corridors, important trees, and salt and water sources. Presenting this knowledge in a story map to outside stakeholders so that they can understand the problem and implement solutions.

Regenerating Land

Supporting communities to implement sustainable management of the land, waterways, wildlife and animals. Mapping degraded land and constructing carefully-placed silangos, traditional water reservoirs, to regenerate the ecosystem and ensure water access for people and wildlife.

Safeguarding Knowledge

The Samburu Knowledge Bank will be a creative and captivating archive for children to remember the feeling of the Earth, the magic of the land, and something greater than themselves—a gift of the most powerful stories, rituals, and healing remedies of their lineage that lives long after the elders are gone.

Together we can support local people to protect wildlife and wild places, while ensuring essential indigenous knowledge is passed to children

Here’s how you can take action today. 100% of your donation goes to the ground.
